Application and synthetic method of 3,5-dimethylphenol (MX)
chemical property:

Purpose:

--3,5-Xylenol is an intermediate for preparing carbamate insecticide methomyl. It can also be used in the production of rubber accelerator, anti-aging agent, medicine, perfume, phenolic resin, etc. it can also be used as an additive of steel rolling cold rolling oil, which can prolong the service life of cold rolling oil.

Production method:
--Mixed xylenol was rectified, and the fraction at 218-222 ℃ was collected. After cooling, crystallization and centrifugal separation, industrial grade 3,5-Xylenol was obtained. The product with purity of 98% can be obtained by recrystallization with toluene. M-xylene was sulfonated with concentrated sulfuric acid at 185 ℃, neutralized at 60-90 ℃, alkali melted at about 350 ℃, acidified with sulfuric acid, and finally distilled under reduced pressure to obtain 3,5-Xylenol with a yield of 65%.
